Curriculum Statement
Our Curriculum
At Rossington St Michael’s, our curriculum has been carefully crafted, structured and enriched to ensure high levels of engagement, enjoyment and personal development for every child. We are committed to helping all children achieve their best possible outcomes, regardless of background or ability.
We aim to develop inquisitive, independent thinkers with a lifelong love of learning. We believe that a rich curriculum should encourage curiosity, academic risk-taking, creativity and resilience, allowing children the freedom to explore ideas, make mistakes and grow from them.
Our curriculum is viewed in its broadest sense - not just as classroom lessons, but as the entire planned learning experience, including routines, events, trips, visitors and opportunities for outdoor learning. Wherever possible, we connect learning to real-life experiences, helping children understand the world around them.
A Curriculum Crafted for Our Children
Our curriculum is grounded in the belief that every child should feel welcome, accepted, able to achieve and loved. These values are at the heart of everything we do and help shape a school environment where all children feel safe, respected and empowered to thrive.
We recognise the diverse backgrounds and lived experiences of our pupils and have designed a curriculum that reflects these realities, whilst also opening doors to new knowledge and wider opportunities. While celebrating our local identity and the heritage of Doncaster, we also encourage children to aspire beyond their immediate surroundings, nurturing a broad, outward-looking worldview.
Ambition for Every Child
We hold high expectations for all learners. Our curriculum is knowledge-rich, well-sequenced and designed to build on prior learning, ensuring that children can make clear, connected progress.
Whether through core academic subjects like English and Maths or through our vibrant wider curriculum - including the arts, physical education and personal development - we aim to equip our pupils with the confidence, knowledge and character to make a positive impact on their own lives and the lives of others.
A Curriculum That Supports Our Community
As a proud village school in Rossington, our curriculum reflects both the strengths and the unique challenges of our local area. We incorporate elements of local history, industry and culture into our teaching, giving children a strong sense of place and belonging.
At the same time, we are committed to broadening horizons and raising aspirations, connecting children’s learning to wider contexts beyond our community. Through strong partnerships with families and local organisations, we provide meaningful, real-world learning experiences that inspire children to aim high and achieve more.
